The Malaysian Timber Certification Council is an independent non-profit organisation established to plan and operate a voluntary national timber certification scheme to provide assurance to buyers of Malaysian timber products that the products have been sourced from sustainably managed forests. It has a Board of Trustees comprising representatives from academic and research and development institutions, the timber industry, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government agencies.

1. NEPCon - First Overseas-Based Assessor Company Registered with MTCC
MTCC has approved the registration of the first overseas-based independent assessor for chain-of-custody certification under the MTCC timber certification scheme.
NEPCon (Nature, Ecology and People Consult), an organization in Denmark is the first overseas-based assessor to be registered following the decision of the MTCC to amend its procedures in 2004 to allow applications for registration of overseas-based assessors. In a related development, the first shipment of MTCC-certified sawn timber to Denmark took place in August 2005. The cumulative export volume of MTCC-certified sawn timber to Denmark until October 2005 is 128 m³.
