The European Parliament considers PEFC and FSC certification systems to be equally suitable in providing consumers with assurances of sustainable forest management.

This was announced in a February 2006 report which evaluated the implementation of the EU forestry strategy which was adopted by the Parliament. The resolution, which has been brought to the attention of the European Council and the European Commission, also calls for the promotion of mutual recognition of the two global certification schemes.

MTCC is a member of the PEFC since November 2002 and is currently taking steps to submit its scheme for endorsement within the PEFC’s framework for mutual recognition.
